Nice early Halloween show with the Joneses. Ok recording. Two Sally's again in the first set. I'm so glad they kept Camel Walk. Melt the Guns is a great cover. They should bring it back in the modern era. Sorry, but Halley's is a little rough for me with Richard on vocals. Back Porch...

Ah Halloween. One of the most storied dates in Phish's history. This show was the second of Phish's three Halloween shows at Goddard while Trey, Page, and Fish were students there. The band did try to play at Goddard in 1985, but had to cancel the appearance after they were...out of sorts......

On the surface, this is a fairly average show, with little to be found here that can't be found in other good 1988 shows (9/8/88, 9/24/88), but there are definitely some tunes worth checking out here. From the first set, I nominate Contact, a pretty funny rendition, and always an enjoyable...

Continuing my tour through the early archives I come across their first recorded Halloween show. I half expected to see Elvis' Aloha From Hawaii covered in set 2 but alas, no dice. Sound here is really warm and very clear. For the vintage and environs one could not expect a better tape. As...

Notable Jam Chart Performances

Individual jam chart entries from this venue:

1988-10-29 Foam (4:27) Set 3
Debut. First version contains only the composed and lyrical sections with no jam component.
1988-10-29 Wilson (5:23) Set 3
An otherwise standard-for-the-era version gets a unique boost courtesy of guest saxophonist Russ Remington (of Giant Country Horns and TAB fame.) Unfinished.
1987-10-31 Jam (8:06) Set 1
A free-form jam, apparently played together with the band the Joneses opens the show, with Trey on drums at first. The jam structure improves once Trey jumps to guitar, and includes some "Low Rider" teases. -> to "Whipping Post."
1986-10-31 Jam (5:45) Set 2
A really good Trey-led jam opens Set II. Rocking and blues-infused, this offers a glimpse at early improvisation. > to "Bag."
1986-10-31 David Bowie (10:05) Set 2
Earliest known live version. Jam is played at a slowed tempo initially, but picks up speed and intensity as it develops.
