(posted long ago to Rec.Music.Phish) 10/6/89 Paradise, Boston, MA Charlie Dirksen, San Francisco, CA Unfortunately, the tapes of this gig don't circulate, and I haven't heard it since it occurred. Many of my friends had aleady seen plenty of Phish shows (Molly's in late '88, numerous...

This is a nice late ’89 show at the Paradise in Boston with pretty good playing overall. The recording cuts in on Gin and this one doesn’t seem that tight from what is represented here. Divided Sky is ok, Mike sounds off in some spots. Ya Mar gets interesting during the solos as everyone is...

The second night at the Paradise in Boston was also a fun listen after last night’s antics. Fishman gets the call early on as IDK opens the show with a vacuum solo. La Grange was a pretty standard cover to get warmed up to, but the ending suffered a bit. YEM was really nice and solid with a...

To my ears, the start of 1989 sounds remarkably like the end of (and really, ALL of) 1988. But that's okay. This is a very well-played show, and arguably a very important early show in Phishtory. Selling out a 650 person venue is pretty huge, after all! The band proceeds to deliver a very...

Quite a few guitar playing styles on display here in this rousing, encore slot version. Great way to end a show.

> in from "AC/DC Bag." Really great Trey soloing, and a high power build-up.
Fierce, dissonant and improvisational jamming including several times when the jam grinds to a near stop, then picks up tempo again.
Great version which includes some "DEG" teasing in the latter part of the jam, which works well with "SOAM."
This fiery version marks the first instance of the 2nd jam, separated from the 1st jam by D, E, and F# chords at 5:22. While only 20 seconds in duration, over time, the 2nd jam would at times become significant. The 2nd jam concludes with a repeat of the D,E, and F# chords, followed by the closing chords.
