This is one of the strongest shows on one of the strongest Phish tours ever, fall of 1999.
The first set is full of gems, like a Llama with a raging jam, a funky, powerful Wolfman's and an oddity like Quinn the Eskimo.
But set II is where it get sublime. The Tweezer melts in slow motion...
This show kicks absolute butt!
It really does have everything. Good Banter (end of SOAM), Jams (SOAM, Tweezer, Piper, YEM). Great segues (Piper>YEM).
Llama kicks things off hot as usual. Wolfman is strong and has some nice light jamming towards the end. Quinn is a very strong inspired...
This was my first phish show. They played a lot of the songs I liked and they broke out a couple songs they don't play very often like mellow mood, and cool it down. The Cities in the second set was really great. all around great show. To bad phish never comes back to the twin cities anymore....
Well, I can't speak for the rest of this show since I haven't heard any of it, but this Suzy is an all-time great, a 18 minute monster that gets some mighty fine Type-2 treatment. It shows how groovy Fall 96 really was at certain times. An all-time great Suzy for sure.... hmmm maybe it's time to...
if you like your jams long and ambient, check out this Cities out..this version is 19min.long, incredible playing by all four members with a nice segue into Free..Cool it Down was brought back on this night which had another nice segue in Bowie..enc:was a quick Fire..
oh and the 1st set, very...
My first show. At the time "Disease" was one of the few songs I actually knew, so I loved it as an opener. I remember thinking 2001 was super cool, and not knowing what was going on with the Suzy Greenberg and the HUMONGOUS jam that follows (which is up there with Darien 2000 in both length and...
I can’t say there’s much interesting about the first set overall. Chalk Dust has some mildly above average work from Trey and Roggae has some cool interplay between Mike, Fish, and Trey. But yeah once again I got “going through the motions” vibes from this set.
However, hard disagree with...
SET 1: Llama: Smokes coming out of the gate. Trey has that effect akin to playing Zeppelin backwards like in Antelope the night before and countless other times on this tour. Big fan.
Wolfman's Brother: Slow and funky, Mike owns this. Really strange version in that this one just fades into the...
The jam gets way beyond "Cities" into some very deep, quiet, and contemplative space. Regains some energy in the final four minutes and is must-hear for fans of groove-based jams.
-> to an excellent, wide ranging "Jam" follows "Suzy" proper. At first a typically rhythmic '96 jam with Trey on the mini percussion set up and Page jumping around different keyboards, it morphs into an upbeat, driving jam, even adding a little psychedelic edge near the ending > to "Prince Caspian."
-> in from "Suzy Greenberg." Excellent, wide ranging jam follows "Suzy" proper. At first a typically rhythmic '96 jam with Trey on the mini percussion set up and Page jumping around different keyboards, it morphs into an upbeat, driving jam, even adding a little psychedelic edge near the ending > to "Prince Caspian."
After rocking pretty intensely, this version mellows into a "Manteca"-like jam for a stretch that also sounds similar to the jam from "BOAF." Eventually devolves into space before > to "YEM."
