Basically, they "swing the bat each night", and there will be strike outs, singles ... and a homer now and then. I find that to be the best part, following along, note for note, thinking about what I'd do at any particular point, hearing what they decide, making a mental comparison / judgement, and then it's on to the next progression. Blind alleys are a part of improvisation ... I saw the Chicago shows, and did this one couch. It was a pleasure following along ...
