MOHEGAN1 RECAP: "AND THE WORLD IS FULL OF ENERGY"

[Thank you @bl002e (Brian Levine) for recapping last night's show in Uncasville, CT. Please note that the opinions expressed by a recapper for a show on this blog are not necessarily those of any volunteer who works on Phish.net. We are all fans with varying opinions, just like you. -Ed]

The core of any game you’ll find in a casino is mathematics. Every card or die is given a numerical value. Vital to any winning strategy is knowing the percentages of probability. Personally, I’m not much of a gambler. However, as a big fan and participant of the maths, here’s a fun fact for my fellow numberphiles: last night marked the first time in exactly three years that Phish played a show in the Nutmeg State, continuing their 2010s trend of only playing Connecticut in years divisible by three (2010, 2013, 2016, 2019; three is indeed everywhere.) Moreover, it had been over 19 years since a CT venue made its debut; the following year saw the grand opening of Mohegan Sun Arena, our host for last night’s Phish show.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 190

Welcome to the 190th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday! The winner will receive an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Good luck!

Hint (Posted 2015-06-30 10:10 am): As noted in previous MJMs, sometimes the mystery jam of the week is topical and sometimes it is not. This week's mystery jam is intentionally topical.

Answer (Posted 2015-07-01 10:20 am): It's a rare week when the Blog wins, but even more rare when the contestants aren't even close. This week's MJM was played in a small club in Vermont, but the date of the show may come as a shock you. The clip comes from the 4/11/04 Sand at the original Higher Ground in Winooski. While it features Trey, Mike, Page, and Fish, it comes from a Trey solo show -- or, just like the Fare Thee Well concerts, a Trey side project. The Blog wins its 13th MJM out of 190, and the contestants will play for two MP3 downloads in next week's MJM.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 189

Welcome to a rare evening session of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday -- and the 189th edition overall. Good luck!

Hint (Posted 2015-06-23 11:11 am): The venue at which this week's mystery jam was played is best known in the Phish fan community for hosting a particular Phish jam. However, that renowned jam is not the one featured in this week's clip.

Answer: The contestants' need of help this week had the Blog dreaming of its first win in almost two years (MJM #161). However, first-time MJM winner @Lee_Fordham sold that hope out a mere 46 days 33 minutes after the hint was given, successfully identifying the 8/6/97 Runaway Jim.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 181

Ah, yet another Monday. Yet another workweek to plow ourselves through. Yet another stellar Sunday Phish show's afterglow in which to bask. And yet another Mystery Jam to solve!

Yet another winner will receive an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Answer: This week's clip was taken from the 12/5/99 Meatstick, which @PersnicketyJim identified to win the MP3 DL and pick up his fourth MJM victory, all impressively occurring in the last thirteen contests. Additional kudos to @ucpete for his reverse-engineering efforts, noting that the 12/5/99 Rochester show featured the debut of Sunday's noteworthy bustout, Jennifer Dances. Hint (Posted 2014-07-22 11:06 am): To date, this is one of only two times that Phish has ever played this song.

Answer: This week's clip is taken from the 9/25/00 Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me & My Monkey, which was Phish's first -- and as of today, only -- post-White Album performance of the tune. Within less than 20 minutes of the hint being posted, @mcgrupp81 is now one win shy of becoming the fourth person to achieve emeritus status. After how quickly the past two hint-aided MJMs have been solved, could a move back to the hugely popular, absolutely indecipherable clues be in the cards? Hint (Posted 2014-07-08 10:23 am):

Answer: First-time winner @GhostDawg came up with the correct identity of this week's clip: the 11/8/91 Jam that followed Jesus Just Left Chicago, which itself followed the "slice of pizza, bucket of lard" Weekapaug Groove. It might technically be a loss, but as it was hint-aided, the Blog breaks its seven-month-long losing streak. Check back here Monday for the next installment of MJM.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 177

So, where were we?

Oh, right—this week's winner will receive an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Good luck!

Answer: With his second MJM victory, @standard recognized the clip as the 7/3/13 Run Like An Antelope. Given the lengthy break between MJMs 176 and 177, I felt that a clip from this show was a fitting way to bring it back, as Bangor '13 ended Phish's longest stretch between shows that did not involve either a hiatus, a breakup, or an expulsion of a lead guitarist resulting from a cadaver-related prank.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 176

Welcome to part 176 of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! Thanks to the very generous folks at Ghostlight Records, we still have one Hands on a Hardbody CD signed by Trey Anastasio that we're awarding to a Mystery Jam winner! Please read below for more information on this exciting prize, including updated prize rules:

Hands on a Hardbody was adapted for the Broadway stage from the 1997 documentary directed by S.R. Bindler, and garnered a Tony nod for “Best Original Score” for Trey and co-writer Amanda Green. Trey’s work on the show also got him two Drama Desk Award nominations, he and Green for “Outstanding Music”, and his collaboration with Don Hart for “Outstanding Orchestration”.

A music video, in part culled from the album recording sessions, that shows Trey in the studio working with the cast, caught the attention of and premiered alongside interviews on rollingstone.com. In one of their articles “Exclusive: Phish’s Trey Anastasio Talks About His First Musical,” Trey speaks of his musical writing experience as “certainly affecting future songwriting” for him. For fans of Trey Anastasio and fans of Phish, interested in brand new material, as well as the growing and changing artist in Trey, it may be of interest to hear his work in this different medium. To check out samples from the Hands on a Hardbody soundtrack on iTunes, or to purchase if you like what you hear, click here.

We will be awarding the CD to the next unique winner. Therefore, if the winner of a previous CD is the first to correctly identify this mystery jam, they will win the MP3 download, but the CD prize will carry over to the next week's contest. The MP3 download is courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Previous MJM emeritus @RabeldyNugs is still eligible to win a CD; however, his MP3 prize would carry over to the following week's contest.

To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Good luck!

Answer: Another first-time winner for this one, as @justino was the first to answer with the 12/31/98 Ghost. He wins the last of the Trey-signed Hands on a Hardbody CDs, plus an MP3 download.

Not even twenty minutes into the contest, @pauly put an end to things quickly by coming up with the 7/19/98 McGrupp, and wins himself a Trey-signed Hands on a Hardbody CD! MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 173

Welcome to the 173rd edition of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! (Or Tuesday.) Thanks to the very generous folks at Ghostlight Records, we have four Hands on a Hardbody CDs signed by Trey Anastasio that we're awarding Mystery Jam winners! Please read below for more information on this exciting prize, including updated prize rules relevant to the next few weeks:

Hands on a Hardbody was adapted for the Broadway stage from the 1997 documentary directed by S.R. Bindler, and garnered a Tony nod for “Best Original Score” for Trey and co-writer Amanda Green. Trey’s work on the show also got him two Drama Desk Award nominations, he and Green for “Outstanding Music”, and his collaboration with Don Hart for “Outstanding Orchestration”.

For fans of Trey Anastasio and fans of Phish, interested in brand new material, as well as the growing and changing artist in Trey, it may be of interest to hear his work in this different medium.

As mentioned above, the prize rules will change a bit over the next several weeks. We will be awarding the CDs to the next four unique winners. Therefore, if the winner of a previous CD is the first to correctly identify a subsequent mystery jam while we're still giving away CDs, they will win that week's MP3 download, but the CD prize will carry over to the next week's contest. We'll continue running the contest this way until all four CDs have been won. Per usual, this week's winner will receive an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Previous MJM emeriti @RabeldyNugs and @pauly will be eligible to win a CD; however, their MP3 prize would carry over to the following week's contest.

To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday Wednesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday Thursday. Good luck!

Answer: @mcgrupp81 joins the five-win club, not fooled by the minor-key segment in the middle of the 5/17/92 Harry Hood jam (note that this linked PhishTracks version and the one used in the clip seem to have different tape speeds), and becomes the first winner of the Trey-signed Hands on a Hardbody CD! Check back on Monday for another chance to win one of the three remaining CDs.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 172

Greetings, and welcome to another rare edition of Mystery Jam Monday: Phish.net After Dark. (Not to be confused with Peach Pit After Dark — as smooth as this clip is, I assure you MJM #172 is most definitely no David Silver jam.)

Per usual, this week's winner will receive an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Good luck!

Answer: @PersnicketyJim is officially en fuego with his third MJM in the last four contests, impressively IDing the 7/29/97 Run Like An Antelope. Bravo!

Make sure to check back here tomorrow for a very exciting announcement regarding MJM, as well as a brand-new Mystery Jam contest.

MJM #171 will return in January. I just want to express my appreciation for those of you who participate in Mystery Jam Monday. I'm constantly in awe of your knowledge of Phish's music, and the challenge in stumping you makes this as fun for me on this side of the game as it was on the other side. Have a great holiday week, enjoy nine more sets of 2013 Phish, and hope to see you at the official MBF Phish.Net Meetup on 12/29.

PHISH DESTROYS ROCHESTER

Phish has previously played five shows within the city of Rochester proper, all occurring in odd-numbered years in the 1990s, oddly enough. The first took place on April 20, 1991, at the University of Rochester’s Douglass Dining Center during its annual pre-finals “D-Day” spring celebration. Having attended UR in the latter-half of the decade, during which Phish regularly performed in front of crowds numbering in the tens of thousands, I was awed that only a few years had passed since they held a concert in the small cafeteria I regularly ate meals at.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 161

Phish.net Mystery Jam Monday iteration: 161
Prize: One MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net
Objective: To be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip
Rules: Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday
Start time: Now

Hint: If Mr. Carey were judging this week's MJM, as of Tuesday at 9:27am ET, Mr. Monroe would have twice the money needed to win.

Answer: Several of you were able to figure out the hint -- as of the time it was posted, all submissions were past the date of the correct answer, so using "The Price is Right" rules (hosted by Drew Carey), since everyone else was "over", Bill Monroe's two-dollar bill would have been double the $1 it would have taken to win. Unfortunately for you, and fortunately for the Blog, only Contestant Emeritus @pauly was able to figure out this week's MJM: the 8/21/93 Stash. For the record, it was previously said that a more straightforward hint might be in order next time. For a mystery jam from the prominent month of August 1993, I'd say this was a suitable increase in clarity, no?

Hint: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=330090197

Answer: The Blog wins only its eleventh MJM ever, as no one identified the 12/31/03 Stash. The 63-45 boxscore linked in the hint connects to New Year's Eve 2003 being the 45th of only 63 shows that Phish played in the brief 2.0 era. Now that the Blog's earned a robust 11-133-15 record, a more straightforward hint might be in order the next time it's needed.

These pretzels are making me thirsty!

Answer: The Blog snaps its seven-game losing streak, but only due to eking out a hint-aided loss, as first-time winner @kozb4209 quietly submitted the correct answer: the 12/28/96 Mike's Song. Well done! Given the Blog's appalling 10-133-15 record, you'll have to forgive me for the obscureness of the pretzel-related hint, and it sure didn't help us win this one. Welcome to the 156th edition of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! As always, the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip will win one MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Time to open wide them earlids and get crackin'...

Answer: Making it three consecutive first-time winners, @Mike_Thong came up with the correct answer in an impressively short amount of time: the 6/8/12 Roses Are Free. One of the most commonly-stated misconceptions Phish fans seem to have is that there was a time in Phish's history when the band would regularly add an extended jam to the ending of Roses. However, out of the 40 times Phish has played the song, the 2012 Worcester version is only the third of three such renditions, following the Island Tour and Big Cypress. So think about that before the next time you lump Roses in with songs neutered in the 3.0 era like Bag, Halley's, Tube, and Mike's.

Good afternoon, contestants. We have an unidentified audio clip labeled "MJM CLIV" that requires your attention. PNC RECAP

Last night marked Phish’s tenth performance – eighth if you’re only counting headlining gigs – at the PNC Garden Bank State Arts Center. If there’s been an ongoing trend to the preshow atmosphere on the current tour thus far, it could be the blazingly hot, 1999 Summer Tour-esque weather. So being mindful of that theme, please try to keep what’s important (water), and know who’s your friend (hydration).

Alas, sometimes an excess of water is the problem, as we saw Tuesday night with Phish’s return to Canada being postponed due to the after-effects of flooding. Whether an intentional nod to a previous Phish show that rain threatened to undermine or just a fortunate coincidence, “Llama” took the leadoff spot. Because the song has been relegated to a once-or-twice-a-year rarity in the 3.0 era, it’s easy to forget what an effective show opener it is.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 150

Happy "Tour Opener Week", and welcome to Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday Part 150! As we did when MJM hit the century mark, the winner will be awarded with one MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net, along with a "Famous Mockingbird" pin designed by AJ Masthay in the color of your choice (silver or gold).

Regarding the Mystery Jam itself, as with MJM #100 and the Hampton/Winston-Salem MJ, this clip has multiple songs on it that you'll need to identify. Therefore, we will not be using the comments to guess this week. Instead, send your SINGLE guess to phish.net.mjm150@gmail.com. If you have any questions, you can post those in the comments section. The first person to correctly identify the song and the date of each jam will be the winner. One guess per person per day, with the second "day" starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. In the event that no one guesses all of the Mystery Jams, the winner will be selected by the Blog at its sole discretion. To start you off with a little help, here's a spreadsheet with the all-time MJM results. Note the number of blank slots for this week's contest, and be assured that each of this week's jams has not been used previously. Good luck!

Tuesday Update: Since no one's submitted an email that includes a guess for all included jams, the hint will be posted at noon ET on Wednesday. You will have until then to submit your first batch of guesses.

Wednesday Hint (note the answer will be posted Friday morning): The years of the seven jams in the clip — in chronological order (these are not necessarily in the order they are played in the clip) — are 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2003, 2009, and 2010. One jam is from a song that is almost never a jam vehicle. Two jams were played in venues owned by or located on college campuses. Three jams were in venues last played in "1.0". Four jams were played in the second half of the year. Five jams were played in the Eastern Time Zone. Six jams were played indoors. All seven jams were played at Phish shows.

Answer: Seven mystery jams was admittedly a tall order, but the Blog pulls out the victory! By IDing four of the seven (#1, 4, 6 & 7), @ucpete had the most accurate entry and is also a winner, as he'll receive the MP3 DL and Masthay pin -- great job! The results sheet now contains all seven answers. MJM returns on Monday.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 149

Today marks the 149th episode of Phish.net's longest running game show, Mystery Jam Monday! Once again, be the first person to identify the source (song and date will suffice) of the mystery clip and win one MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Each of you get one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Now bust out those cotton swabs, clean out those ears, and get ready to listen!

Answer: With an impressive fourth win over the last fourteen MJMs, @PhreePhish is on the fast track to emeritus status. The vague teasing of "Ramble On" in the 12/31/97 Mike's Song initially fooled some contestants, but ultimately the Blog's record dropped to 9-126-14 (that's wins, losses, and hint-aided wins, respectively).

Next week, we'll be celebrating both Phish's return to the stage and the 150th edition of Mystery Jam Monday. Stay tuned.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 148

Welcome to the 148th chapter of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! Per usual, if you're the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery clip, you'll win an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Each contestant gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer following on Wednesday. Enjoy!

Answer: The Blog woefully waves its white flag this week. Despite the majority of its 34 seconds consisting of crowd noise, with a few scant seconds at the end vaguely inferring the return back to Foam, @yunkfunk was able to ID the 12/4/94 Foam. The Blog promises to appease the masses, and will at least try to stick to a more traditional, mostly-audible clip for Monday's upcoming one-hundred-and-forty-ninth Mystery Jam.

REVISITING CANADA (TORONTO)

It’s hard to process the fact that July 6 will mark the passage of thirteen years since the last time the nation of Canada – or any land outside of the Unites States, for that matter – hosted a Phish show. A variety of theories abound to explain the lengthy embargo, from previous border-crossing difficulties, to Trey’s probationary terms stemming from his December 2006 arrest, to the band’s devotion to Dunkin’ Donuts and utter contempt for Tim Hortons.

Regardless of the actual reasoning, it will come to an end a mere three days following that milestone. That roar you vaguely remember coming down from north of the border this past winter? Well, okay – it was almost certainly the celebration of professional hockey’s return from yet another labor stoppage. But there’s a slim chance it was the long-neglected Canadian contingency of Phish fans cheering the announcement of the upcoming July 9, 2013 show at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheatre.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 147

By knowing that this week's mystery jam came from the February(-ish?) 2004 jam at the Barn featured in Undermind's bonus DVD doc, "Specimens of Beauty", first-time winner @j_led deftly wins this week's MP3 download. Guys, gals, don't be appalled if next week's selection ends up being a silent jam.

See you Monday(-ish?)!

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 146

With exactly one month left to wait for Phish's 2013 summer tour opener in Bangor, we bring to you the 146th episode of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! To give the readers who can't participate during standard 9-to-5 work hours a fair shot, we've posted this one a bit later than usual. To win an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net, be the first contestant to correctly identify this week's song and date. Each contestant gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Let's get this show on the road!

Answer: Second-time winner @morgentown wins this week's MP3 download by knowing the 11/11/88 Whipping Post. Once again, the MJM contestants show how tough it is to stump them.

New MJM in five days. New jams to choose from in twenty-eight.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 145

Welcome to the 145th chapter of Phish.net's Mystery Jam, er, "Monday." Just like your local clichéd classic rock FM radio station, this will be a true "Two for Tuesday" edition, as you'll be playing to win TWO MP3 downloads courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first contestant to correctly identify this week's song and date. Each contestant gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Wednesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Thursday. Good luck!

Answer: A pair of MP3s goes to first-time winner @viola, who successfully identified the 6/19/09 A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing. Well done!

T-minus three days until MJM Part 146...

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 144

Welcome to the 144th edition of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday. You should all know how the story goes by now -- the first contestant to correctly identify this week's song and date will win an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Each contestant gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Gentlemen, gentlewomen, start your engines...

Tuesday Hint: Being familiar with the longest version of Gotta Jibboo that Phish has played to date can help you determine which year this week's MJM comes from. Be warned, however -- this hint is not as straightforward as you might think it is.

Wednesday Answer: It seems that the hint was as hard to solve as the MJM itself! You were very close to solving that part, as @ekstewie1441's comment mentioned that the 7/4/00 Gotta Jibboo was the answer for MJM #96, and '96 was indeed the year that MJM #144 comes from -- the 7/9/96 Mike's Song to be exact. Because the answer to MJM #144 was not mentioned in the comments, the Blog is this week's big winner with its ninth victory in 144 tries, but its second in the last five.

Next week's 145th chapter of Mystery Jam Monday will be held a day late due to Memorial Day, for which contestants will be competing to win a pair of MP3 downloads. Enjoy the holiday weekend, everyone!

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 143

Welcome to the 143rd edition of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! As always, the first contestant to correctly identify this week's song and date will win an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules: one guess per person per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Enjoy!

Wednesday Answer: For a moment, I'd deluded myself into thinking that this week's choice had fooled the contestants just long enough to at least earn a hint-aided loss. With a scant eight hours left, however, they proved once again how ridiculously great and knowledgeable they truly are. (Or how miserably awful the Blog's been at choosing clips.)

Fall 1998 was certainly not the most consistent tour Phish has ever played, but it did provide numerous underrated gems -- MJM #143's 11/4/98 Piper being one example. Three-time winner @PhreePhish wins this week's MP3 download. Mazel Tov!

Mystery Jam Monday 122 arrives in five.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 142

On this lovely seis de mayo, I'd like to welcome you to the 142nd chapter of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! As always, the first contestant to correctly identify this week's song and date will win an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: one guess per person per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday.

Buena suerte!

Wednesday Answer: By correctly identifying the 10/8/99 Halley's Comet this week's MP3 download goes to @mcgrupp81, who's now recorded three MJM wins. Bravo!

MJM CXLIII drops Monday.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 141

Welcome to the 141st episode of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! We're a scant 5,637,600 seconds or so from lights down in Bangor. If you've got a spare sixty to waste, give this one a listen. If you recognize which song and show it was culled from, post your guess in the comments. Because MJM Headquarters was the big winner last week, the first contestant to correctly identify this week's song and date will win TWO MP3 downloads, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: one guess per person per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday.

Good luck!

Wednesday Answer: No luck was needed, as @westbrook identified the 8/24/93 Vancouver Soundcheck Jam (the first 10:00 of that YouTube) within the first two minutes of the contest, and wins a pair of MP3 downloads. Although, considering that @yunkfunk also answered correctly within seconds of the winning comment, perhaps a bit of luck was involved. Regardless, the Blog was thoroughly flogged -- per usual, you contestants are truly on your game.

Episode #142, next Monday. Same Phish time. Same Phish channel.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 140

Greetings, and welcome to the 140th episode of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! Including today's edition, we're still eleven Mystery Jam Mondays away from the opening show of Phish's 2013 Summer Tour, which should provide you ample opportunity to fill up that road playlist.

That's because, per usual, we will be playing for an MP3 download, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: you need to correctly identify the song and the date to win. Post your guess in the comments. One guess per person per day (with the second “day” starting after I post the hint). A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, and the answer will be posted on Wednesday.

Best of luck!

Tuesday Hint: The streak of fourteen straight MJMs that have not needed a Tuesday hint has been snapped! It remains to be seen, however, if the Blog can put an end to its winless streak of twenty-five. Here's your clue: along the lines of what @ucpete alluded to, there are MJMs which are topical, and MJMs which are not. This week's MJM falls into the former group.

Wednesday Answer: With the win, I'd like to congratulate -- the Blog! It was a true nail-biter, as many of you were able to pin down either the era or the location, but ultimately no one was able to put it all together and name the 12/31/94 Chalk Dust Torture, played at the old Boston Garden, and chosen in the wake of the utter chaos that enveloped Boston last week. Check out the end of that track for the post-outro evil spaciness that ultimately fades into a soothing Horse > Silent.

Stay tuned for next week's one hundred and forty-first Mystery Jam Monday, when the Blog attempts to put together its first two-win streak and improve its current record of 8-114-14[1].

[1] That would be 8 wins, 114 losses, and 14 hint-aided losses. And yes -- when falling to 106 games below .500, you're damned right we're counting hint-aided losses separately from the garden-variety ass-whuppings we typically suffer.

MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 139

Welcome to the 139th edition of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday. I am truly honored to be your new victim host, and hope I can be the Andrew Luck to @lumpblockclod's Peyton Manning. Rather than his Curtis Painter.

Despite the change in personnel, most things around here will remain the same. As usual we will be playing for an MP3 download, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: you need to correctly identify the song and the date to win. Post your guess in the comments. One guess per person per day (with the second “day” starting after I post the hint). A hint will be posted on Tuesday (if necessary) and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Good luck...

Wednesday Answer: My dreams of an undefeated reign have been destroyed. By identifying the 8/10/04 AC/DC Bag -- a song about Gamehendge's accountant Mr. Palmer that was posted on Tax Day, I'd like to note -- this week's MP3 download goes to @PhreePhish, who's put together an impressive run of two wins over the last four weeks.

Join us here next Monday for the one hundred and fortieth installment of Mystery Jam Monday.
