This was my first show. I haven't been the same since. I am writing this review while listening to the Wingsuit set for the umpteenth time on my 19th phishaversary. So there's that. I waited out all night for these tickets outside the newly finished multi-million dollar symphony hall at MSU...

#20YearsLater Wow... it's amazing to think that this transformative night in my life was 20 years ago. This show was mind-bending. I remember that it was originally supposed to happen at Wharton Center, and then they changed it a week or two before - why, I'm not sure. But this show...

Another fine show from this fantastic tour. This one opens with Rift, performed solidly by the band and immediately raising the energy level. The subsequent AC/DC Bag is excellent and, while not straying too far, it’s also full of energy, with an ending jam that really smokes, taking this...

Notable Jam Chart Performances

Individual jam chart entries from this venue:

1994-11-18 Split Open and Melt (11:33) Set 1 Noteworthy
Great, uptempo playing early on becomes increasingly frenetic and dissonant. Returns with a jarring ending.
1994-11-18 Possum (11:42) Set 2 Noteworthy
Blistering and rocking version includes "Bathtub Gin," "Jean Pierre," and "DEG" teases and a blazing peak.
1994-11-18 AC/DC Bag (8:15) Set 1
> in from "Rift." This Bag is musically tight, yet slightly structurally different than other type I Bags. There is a litle funky piano breakdown at around 4:00 before blues-Trey rears his head in for some of the more traditional buildup-and-release jamming. At about 6:25, Trey sustains a note, and the Bag takes off before a return to the ending coda and > to Julius.
1994-11-18 Tweezer (14:26) Set 2
Fierce, truly inspired version that I grossly underrated in the mid-1990s. I am ashamed of myself.
"Reverend" Jeff Mosier on banjo. Great exploratory version that gets well beyond standard fare.
