This show might be the most under-appreciated show in Phish's history. Ask any fan about this New Year's Run and they'll go on and on about the wonderful show on the 30th. School bus balloons and a confusing but entertaining movie...
This show is a testament to the strength of Fall 97. While it's one of the least renowned shows of the tour, it is still a fantastic show. Julius and Cities both have pretty good jams. This Cities is an example of the stacatto/plinko jams that have been seen recently. The segue into The...
Only been to Landover twice. First time was to see Jerry on 3/17/93. He floored my current GF and myself with a blistering Shakedown, Dark Star, and Lucy in the Sky etc. I knew we were stepping into hallowed ground seeing Phish there for the first and only (?) time. Things got heated first...
To echo SLOTHelot, this second set 12/28/97 is exceptional Phish. No surprise for Fall 1997, right? This AXILLA is for the AX ages ........extending into what I note as "Ax Sick Illa Jam." IT goes places, just listen. This is THE AXILLA! As it sounds like they're going into BOTT after...
This show contains the single most improvisational version of Free of all time. A symphony with multiple passages that never feels forced, this version is to Free what the 12/29/94 version of Bowie is to that song.
After a pleasant but largely forgettable first set, the band manages only half...
Im curious as to why this show is so poorly rated. The first set is nothing extremely special compared to other November and December shows in '97, but it is flawlessly played. The stand out are the Julius opener, the SOAMelt, and the Jim is top notch funk.
This second set is awesome. The...
This was my 1st show. I had been listening to phish for years and finally went to see them. 5 hour drive to a venue a year before I saw my first Dead show. I was blown away, could not have asked for a better show. Looking back on it and the set list. Just something that you wont see these days....
In the grand scheme of life, in Phish world...(a year with very little not to love)...a very good show will slip thru the cracks, some of the November shows get forgotten in the year of our Icculus ‘95...makes sense: hot last week of October and then a legendary December.
But this show is the...

Though the 1997 New Years Run started in Maryland, it was viewed by many as a one-night mid-Atlantic warmup followed by a three-night romp through the Big Apple. And what a romp it was!...
Great stepping stone to an epic NYE Run
Cities has a very quick but very nice extra funky jam coming out of it. The Curtain > Sample transition is clean and near perfect. Jim has a very straight forward but nice and mellow jam coming out of it. Farmhouse is very sloppy but it's still just a...
The second extended, highly improvisational "Free." This one is a monster with several movements well beyond "Free" proper and "No Quarter" teases and a "BATR" tease. -> to "Llama." Must-hear.
Jam begins in traditional fashion but eventually there's a somewhat inexplicable key modulation from Trey. A very unusual version that also includes Page on clavinet for a stretch.
Guitar and piano jam with "Roundabout" teases instead of traditional Mule Duel. Eventually the whole band joins in quiet but suspenseful jam that is quality music.
