Little did I know at the time being only 5 years old when this show was put on this was my first introduction to the counter culture and it has a lasting impact on who I am today. This show was held just down the hill from my family farm formally located at 287 Howard rd in the town of volney ny....

(Published in the second edition of The Phish Companion...) I had an absolute blast at Oswego. I've yet to miss a festival, from Clifford Ball up through IT, and Oswego may have been the best overall experience. Sure there was traffic getting in,...

BOTH nights of Oswego are musically phenomenal. I think I liked night one better, but night two had some distinct highlights that are worth mentioning. The Piper is a strong contender for best version. The Runaway Jim absolutely IS the best version, imo. And the Icculus MADNESS, Quinn, Fluff...

I was fourth row center, packed in like a sardine with two buddies amongst the heat exhausted, sweaty crowd. Please hold, I need a bong hit before I finish this review....Much better. OK, where was I? Oh yeah, trying to rehash old memories in the vain and useless hopes of recapturing former...

Quick note - I'm still not entirely sure how the last review on this page made it to this page, let alone the Phish Companion. I mean, I get what the person's trying to say, but it managed to neither sum up the experience of being there nor the music being played, and you kind of need to do one...

This show comes off very similar to Night 2 of IT. We have 3 sets with strong anchor jams in each one. Set 1 has a stronger than usual farmhouse. This is proceeded by a beautiful, fast, and tense Gin jam that would be the nightly prize of most shows. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Much more. You...

This would be my first weekend with Phish. It was a hot one baking on the runway. I had no major expectations of the music-take what comes at me. I remember enjoying myself thoroughly throughout the weekend. There are few things I enjoyed on day 2: Runaway Jim was a monster, Piper was quite...

There are pretty much 4 things from this show which demand your attention: Bathtub Gin, Runaway Jim -> Free, Piper The rest is fun but not terribly noteworthy otherwise. Oh yeah, and this weekend was insanely hot.

My first Phish show. After listening to Phish in my latter years in college with my fraternity brothers; I was all in for Camp Oswego. Three cars and 10 people deep, off we go to Volney NY from NJ. As predicted by my experienced friends, we hit an 8 hour traffic jam to get inside the airport. And...

I've been to all Festivals from The Went on thru It. This one and The IT Festival feel related in my memory . Musical cousins if you will. They both had incredible music peppered throughout, but both had some rough edges and a bit too much much of self indulgence by the band. I felt that this...

Notable Jam Chart Performances

Individual jam chart entries from this venue:

1999-07-18 Runaway Jim (24:12) Set 2 Noteworthy
Fantastic, groove-based jamming, and this "Jim" has several good ones. Released on Live Bait Vol. 5.
1999-07-18 Piper (25:02) Set 3 Noteworthy
After a long patient intro, this "Piper" rages until about 14:00 when the jam shifts to a funky, multi-faceted rhythmic groove. This version has much more exploratory jamming than most '99 "Pipers," which tend to focus on a single layered groove. Cool Fishman percussion at the end leads to a -> to "Prince Caspian."
1999-07-18 Bathtub Gin (19:33) Set 1
A nice, Page-led groove develops on the back end of the standard "Gin" jam.
With the Del McCoury Band. Another great bluegrass version.
1999-07-18 Reba (17:04) Set 1
Concentrated, quiet, and introspective play emerges from the composed section. Mike and Fish maintain a steady beat, and Trey's delicate soloing is complimented by really great work from Page. Super bass and powerful piano underscore great guitar and percussion, the jam breaking free to become less groove-oriented and more euphoric.
Breaks into a nice pulsing groove at about 6:45. Doesn't stray as far from "CDT" as the 7/10/99 version, but still great.
1999-07-18 Free (10:26) Set 2
-> in from a huge "Runaway Jim." Super lazy, summer-style Mike led jam. > to "Meatstick."
1999-07-18 Llama (7:28) Set 2
> in from "Axilla." Incredibly deft Trey playing combines with that unique '99 - '00 high pitched sound. Extended ending.
-> in from a big "Piper." Easy-going Camp Oswego version has some soaring Trey guitar work and a cool transition to "Wilson."
1999-07-18 Wilson (4:17) Set 3
Deep into the last set of Camp Oswego, Wilson serves as the unfinished springboard to classic, ridiculous Phishery, preceding a Catapult and a series of narrations and jamlets that often rely on a Wilson-ish chug as a sort of home base.
1999-07-18 Catapult (4:43) Set 3
-> in from "Wilson." Following "Catapult," Trey launches into several minutes of banter about the Guiness Book of World Records, the "Book", and other topics. The droning vamp played since the latter part of "Wilson" abruptly changes and -> to "Smoke On The Water" Jam.
1999-07-18 Icculus (4:25) Set 3
-> in from "Catapult." Nice jam on this Deep Purple classic. Trey adds some amusing banter about musical similarities between this song and Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever." > to "Icculus."
1999-07-17 Tube (7:00) Set 1
Trey takes the melody while Mike punctuates the funk groove with great slapping.
1999-07-17 Tweezer (19:02) Set 1
Jamming is groovy, and very cool at times (MIKE!), but still kinda dull for stretches. Good -> "Have Mercy"
1999-07-17 Taste (12:25) Set 1
-> in from "Have Mercy." Similar to, but more stretched out than 7/3/99. Yet it doesn't have quite the melodic bliss.
