As was rather typical for '90, the band's technical prowess really shines throughout this show. All the tunes on the set list with distinctly demanding composed excursions are played with excellent precision. If, for some reason (and I shall refrain from inquiring why) you are on a quest to seek...

(Published on the legacy Phish.net site many years ago...) We got to Armstrong about an hour before the show, and there were very few people there. My wife was dressed as a cop, and it was quite a realistic uniform. Page and Fish came by, and Fish asked her if she was a cop or if that was her...

Show starts off with the classic early era pairing of Buried Alive > Possum. Trey shreds BA to pieces, even though it's a relatively new song, and it's most appropriate being that it's Halloween. Possum (another death song) includes some early secret language signals. Fishman kicks us all...

Every once in a while, it's nice to travel back in time to these pre-1993 shows when the band was playing college gigs, Page rocked an electric keyboard, and Guelah Papyrus was the Asse Festival. There's something endearing about the carefree goofiness of it all and the fact that people could...

Notable Jam Chart Performances

Individual jam chart entries from this venue:

1991-10-31 You Enjoy Myself (16:27) Set 1 Noteworthy
Siiiiiiick jam segment.
Trey launches the instrumental section a whole step down from the norm, in C Major rather than D Major. As the VII chord wants desperately to resolve back to tonic, there is blissful release as the jam returns home to D Major.
1991-10-31 David Bowie (13:52) Set 2
A hilarious intro with elements of "Wait." Doesn't take long for Trey to get hooked on a repetitive melodic theme, but once the band tires of it, semi-dissonant "type II" improv ensues, though an "Oom Pah Pah" signal puts a stop to it and they return to a traditional "Bowie" jam.
1990-10-31 Tweezer (9:15) Set 2
Impressive, though short, early version with "Heartbreaker" teases.
1990-10-31 Possum (9:00) Set 1
Serious kick-ass, blistering and ripping jam. Straightforward, but so what? Archival release from Live Phish.
1990-10-31 Reba (10:16) Set 2
While compact, Trey uncovers an absolutely infectious groove, and, predictably, an incredible jam ensues. Unpredictably, however, the band arrives at the "note" absent Fish's tomming, with the version abruptly soaring into space.
Mike repeatedly teases "Wilson's" opening notes in the jam. Tease of "Night in Tunisia" in the vocal jam.
> a strong "Jim," this super, early version, showcases the song's potential - not as a jamming heavyweight, but how "Jim" was played for the better part of four years" A versatile, fiery, "turn-it-up" number, which also functions to illustrate the band's considerable, and emerging, full-band musicianship.
