This was my first Phish show. I went to LSD having never even heard of the band. The people I was meeting up with were arriving later in the day, so I caught this set alone. Well, not really alone. An instant community of super welcoming and super happy phriends manifested around me. And Phish,...
The second set is outrageous. Tweezer, It's Ice, Reba...all played at the best levels they ever played them...and then you get a 24 minute YEM??...oh yea, with Les Claypool playing along. This is a very underrated set for '94. Listen to the second set as soon as you can.
This run was a trip. I saw these two shows right after catching 8 out of the 9 Grateful Dead shows at Vegas, Shoreline, and Cal Expo (hey, I had to work ONE day). I was lucky to still have a job when I got back into town. I saw the Laguna Seca Dead shows in '88 and '87, so I was pretty...
Warm sunshine, wide open lawn with plenty of space to dance on, you can't ask for better outdoor venue conditions. This is the infamous Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey. Camping on the hill, music below.
The music was incredible. The boys we're coming off 3 nights at the Warfield and these...
I love hunting for underrated gems and my hope was that this show would fit the bill. This being 1994, and following the more famous show from the day before with its top notch Reba and Les Claypool's guest appearance, this show has all the makings of hidden treasure.
I'll begin by noting...
These 2 Laguna Seca Daze (LSD) shows ended Phish's 45-show spring tour the way Phish loves to party, with music and camping! I was not there, but I feel it through the music.
The first night (5/28)'s first set sounded like an early 3.0 "festival" set, but that notion flew completely out the...
Super-duper standard first set. If you've listened to lots of '94 you can look at the setlist and know what you're in for. There's really nothing to comment on, just the same ole same ole.
The second set has many individual highlights that don't create a very succinct whole. It's Ice is...
Before taking six weeks off, the boys turn in another average one set show for the Laguna Seca Daze festival. Maybe they had a little too much fun the night before as there were missed sections here and there, but not too bad. The recording was another good one, like last night’s, maybe the...
This show was a testament to how much I loved Phish. I was so fried by this time that all I could think about was going home to my bed. I had just seen 8 of 9 Dead shows in the last 2 weeks, and headed down to Laguna Seca just to see Phish. I didn't know they would only be one set shows, and I...
This was my very first Phish show! I was in my last semester at SF State and really on the bus w/ the GD, getting ready to see 17 Dead shows that summer. But a pal & I were hearing the buzz about Phish and so we went down to the Warfield on May 27 to try to get tix to see them that night....
Super version. Trey drives a great, dark, direct yet swinging groove, with Page providing really colorful fills. Mike is on-point, his play incredible, and, with Fish, inciting a sort of charge from Trey who creates an electric solo through an incredible conclusion.
Classify this one in the extreme "Anarchy" jamming category. Jam includes Trey chanting, Fish yelling, a largely dark vibe, slow pulsing power rocking, rhythmic-driven jamming, more screaming, etc.
Terrific Page. Outstanding Trey (whose solo departs from that sound characteristically "emotive" to become something more "musical"). Fish is the surpirse, here, though. Rim shots, extra floursihes and fills really work to bring this version to a fun and fiery close.
