This is the Phish sound I love. They come out after a rain shower in GIN, this one starts out slow and then Trey just adds layer of layer of gooey, stringy texture to the song. It is that 1999 tone that is so beautiful and thick. The song winds down, and the band plays a few newer numbers,...
That PBR review may be the most pointless review I've ever read, put the booze down and let your mind be freed by the Stash
Too cool for the noob friendly encore, too drunk to pay attention to the show. Sweet
I made the drive from Greensboro, NC for this show. I had met a few friends working at a summer camp the year before, one of which lived in Wichita, KS. So what better reason to catch up with a friend than to throw a phish show in the mix! This was a solo drive in my '93 Honda Accord, a year...
this is one of my all time favorites. this is a really odd ball show, even on compared to many other odd ball shows in 1998. nice little version of emotional rescue gets this one going before giving way to a good but not other-worldly down with disease. this leads nice into a deep funky moma...
7-28 soundcheck: (as is published in Pharmer's Almanac)
Ficus (2x), Shafty, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Sunshine On My Shoulders> Jam
(Fishman says "..you're not vegetarian if you eat the placenta..)
Facts: Page was the 1st member to step on stage this evening and began by peeking and...
This is one of my favorite shows that doesn't contain any serious jamming. A great set list, plenty of variety and each song played with conviction. I was given front row center tickets from mail order, still the best seats I've ever had. I spent half the show in the back of the pavilion while...
Phish always seemed to enjoy playing in KC and this show was no exception. Aside from the early memorial hall shows this one stands out as being one of the most powerful shows from my home town. It was a perfect evening in KC and Sandstone Amphitheatre is a nice outdoor venue that isn't near as...
This version of The Moma Dance almost makes me not miss Black-Eyed Katy...... Almost. Unfortunately, 1998 is a year that is often eclipsed by the groundbreaking music made the year previous. It's shows like this one that remind me of the amazing and inspired "laid-back" groove approach that is...
6/30/99 SET I
The Bonner Springs, Kansas show opens with a BANG! A huge Bathtub Gin with full band exploration and an ambient jam that enveloped the venue in a haze of mixed rhythmic signatures, gorgeous varied loops, and beautiful themes from Trey on guitar and Page on the baby grand piano....
I saw all 8 two set shows of the Europe '98 tour. I then came back to the states and was able to catch just one show of the US summer tour. At this show, Bonner Springs, I saw 11 songs that they didn't play the entire European tour. Wtf?
Good show. Not Grate. But good. Lots of rarities all in...
A different vibe to this version, it has a subdued, almost melancholy quality to it despite being well played. An unusual take on "Limb" and worth checking out.
> in from "Mango Song." Has a distinctly funky sound at first. Lots of great shredding by Trey. At about 4:50, breaks into a brief, funky, very non-"Brother" groove, then returns home to conclude.
This has a more active jam than most, with some lead organ by Page and a Trey solo four minutes in that is based on "Dust in the Wind." A strong version overall.
Similar in some respects to the 6/30/99 version. This one also has a somewhat downbeat sentiment, which is unusual. But it's well-played with the crisp work typical of a quality "Limb."
The first jam of 1999 slowly, patiently, methodically builds and plateaus into a phantasmically pschedelicious soundcape full of wondrous, mellifluous stories that eventually coalesce into a mystical-yet-triumphant foam, bespeckled by bedazzlingly exquisite riffs by Trey on Gin's melodic theme, which soulfully concludes this orchestral dance.
"Bathtub Gin" tease from Trey. Excellent version, and at the end, Page, Trey and Fish enter into a mock duel with several reprises of the "Maze" signature lick.
