It was difficult to recall whether this was 1989 or 1990 from this distance in time. Luckily, a wee board dl from etree helped jog the memory. The Tree was sort of a dump, but hey, we sat in a booth right behind Fishman. By the end of the night, 80% of the room was filled with familiar...

As Trey mentions a couple of times, they were trying a lot of new songs at this show, so much of the show (Bathtub Gin, PYITE, Reba) are...well, works in progress. Gin is one of those early chaotic versions. One note about the Reba - it still has the "Don't Get Me Wrong" Bag It, Tag It bridge...

This was a very high-energy show to hear, although not a complete recording, it’s still a great “Lawn Boy era” show. Also, it was their last performance at the Tree Café. I’m assuming we are missing at least 30 to 45 minutes of music in the first set as the recording cuts in half way through...

Sigh...I wish I'd recognized at the time that driving 2.5 hours on a Friday night was worth it to see Phish in a small club. School was beating me like a mule and I probably wasn't fired up for a road trip. I was at the Tree a couple different times, and my recollection that it was a fairly small...

Teases (see Setlist), including some in the middle of the jam, which is unusual. But that fits with this weird, very improvisational version. Not magical music, but if you like quirky improv, check it out.
