The first West Coast show the band ever played cost $1. Let that sink in for a minute. Considering the price, this performance is outstanding, even if there's very little to make it stand out for the era. From the sound of the tape, the turnout is pretty good and some of the audience is...

(Published in the second edition of The Phish Companion...) I had just seen Phish play four days in a row, with the Stanford free show the day before. The Stanford show was fun, but I decided to take it easy and save up energy for the Catalyst....

Better than yesterday's show in my opinion. First set has a nice Buried Alive opener into a rocking NICU still with the weird middle section. Stash and Paul are good. My Friend still needs work. Mike falls off during the intro. Reba has a big FU in the middle, but they quickly recover....

This is the show where I GOT IT!! This was my fifth show, and my fourth of the week. I was up in Arcata, and then the two GAMH shows, but I was either drunk or hungover for those three shows. The Catalyst show got me. I was pretty burned out and tired, and still a little sick from drinking...

I think that the bootleg sound quality is giving me some trouble here. The Stash jam is really cool but the recording is such that I have to really lock in on Trey to follow his playing and its more of a chore than the pleasure it should be. Maze however sounds very good and is my clear set 1...

(Published on the legacy Phish.net site many years ago...) Wow... I mean, wow! I'd never heard Phish before the show on the 19th, purposefully, so that I could enjoy the Phish live experience with no preconceptions of their music. All I expected was "killer jams" and an "intense crowd".I Got...

So, I thought this show was a solid 3 or 3.5. Then I heard the Terrapin with Mimi Fishman. I usually don't base ratings on things other than the music, but sometimes you just have to make an exception. A touching love song to Fish's mom!

So at the start of the 2nd set, load and clear on the SBD, Fishman announces a "special guest appearance" later in the set, who would of course turn out to be his mom, Mimi Fishman. Then Trey steps to the mic and mentions "the spirit of Steve Hope, and his friends out there. That's all I'm going...

Notable Jam Chart Performances

Individual jam chart entries from this venue:

1992-04-19 Runaway Jim (7:20) Set 2 Noteworthy
> "Cold as Ice", this hot show-closer features playful and melodic Trey, with a pinch of verve, and a whole lot of swagger. Pushing boundaries, the version lays the foundation for future jamming here, there, or anywhere.
1992-04-19 Stash (8:35) Set 1
Great version where the notion of the standard "Stash" jam is tested repeatedly. Trey moves horizontally in his melody rather than vertically several times which adds good tension.
A less dissonant, more melodic approach to the jam began to flourish in April '92, and this version is a great example. The jam here is very rocking and percussive, while the 2nd jam makes good use of tension, but without so much chaos and shrill dissonance.
The first segment begins in familiar style but also includes an atypically tense movement to go along with impressive straightforward jamming. Then, a settled, quieter section develops in the middle before blasting back into "Weekapaug" proper and closing with a vocal jam.
Oh HELL yeah! Among the earliest versions to jam.
