To agree with DFB's thoughtful review of 5/13/94 (my first show), the band were very much firing on all cylinders that night. Before commenting further on the songs and playing, a few words about the venue. Hayden Square is in the middle of an 80's-90's live-work condo complex with an office...

I would characterize this show as wild, well played, and fun to listen to with well chosen and well placed songs. With the exception of It's Ice, nothing gets too out there in terms of improvisation. However, Runaway Jim, Stash, and SOAM are all very strong "type 1" versions. I also note that...

This is a real barnburner of a show. Hot hot hot. I'm not a fan that needs Type 2 to be satisfied, and I love this one in spite of the fact that nothing goes to far away from the typical form. They just tear this setlist to shreds. The Split is the big daddy in this show. One of the most...

Four score and thirty years ago..... I went to my first show on this very night with my ex-, who turned me on to this amazing band. Little did i know at the time how it would later connect me with some of my best friends in life as well as a whole range of amazing trips and a ZILLION laughs....

Notable Jam Chart Performances

Individual jam chart entries from this venue:

1994-05-13 It's Ice (10:11) Set 1 Noteworthy
Ferocious jam with some pretty crazy improvisation by the band. All over the place!
Excellent and active full band engagement during Page's section, especially some great interplay with Mike, and Fish on the wood blocks. The already energized nature of the jam builds to an intense conclusion before returning to the closing section.
1994-05-13 Stash (11:35) Set 1
High power, intense and pounding jam that is mostly straightforward at first. But then, just when it seems to be finishing, the jam swerves abruptly, becoming a sick, growling and angry monster.
Typical full power '94-style "Slave." Great quieter teaming by Mike and Trey early in the jam. At 5:43 Fish kicks into gear and it's throttle-up time.
Riveting, intense, pounding, a downright ripping version. Mostly "Type I" but so what - this one will kick your ass!
Strong jam, "Mind Left Body" tease.
