Page teased Jingle Jangle Jingle in Divided Sky. Wilson included Simpsons, Random Note, and Aw Fuck! signals played over a jazzy interlude. Tweezer included Rhapsody in Blue and Donna Lee teases as well as a brief PYITE tease. Mike’s Song included On Broadway teases and ended with a Blue Bayou tease. Blue Bayou was then played as an instrumental and contained three All Fall Down signals. Mike again teased Blue Bayou during the Weekapaug opening. Terrapin was the slowest version ever, according to Trey’s commentary at the show, and featured Fish on trombone. It included Fish introducing the band with various slow-related nicknames. The second Big Ball Jam and Carolina were performed without microphones. The second Big Ball Jam was also an a cappella version. The soundcheck's Diamond Girl was performed with the Dude of Life.

Review by DollarBill

DollarBill The second night in New Haven for the New Year's run brings an interesting mix of high energy, some sloppy playing and tons of fun! Not a bad recording with some minor EQ-ing done.

Funky Bitch cuts in on the recording and kind of sounds like its part of the sound check by the abrupt ending. Jim seems more like the proper opener as the boys get settled in. Guelah has a smooth groove to it, although Trey blows the lyrics before really tight Asse Festival and Fly sections. Llama was a little sloppy early on, but finished off well. My Friend is nice to hear, and the intro is getting tighter every time. Divided Sky was a little loose and had a few rough parts toward the end. The last two Wilson's have been crazy as this one goes all jazzy during an extended signal section. Uncle Pen was solid bluegrass up and down. Stash was nice tonight and had a great jam to it. Tela seemed like a great idea, but Page blew the lyrics and then the interlude to follow all but broke down. They did finish strong with Trey's solo. Oh Kee Pa was good into a silly, funky Suzy to close up an average first set.

The Curtain was pumping to get second set off to a good start. Fishman jumps right into the Tweezer groove for a great transition with Trey. The great jam that was happening was overshadowed by a bad cable connection somewhere making the left channel sound very distorted. This was fixed as Trey took them into a mellow Horse. Silent took a bit to get off the ground, but Page brought them through alright. My Sweet One is the next ripping bluegrass call of the night complete with the Big Ball Jam. Trey mellows it back out with a very nice FEFY. Fish then leads them right into one of the finest live ATR's I've ever heard. Mike's Song gets really weird with all the teases of various songs and actual stops in there too. Culminating into a pretty well played and fast Hydrogen. Mike takes his time properly teasing Blue Bayou before his Weekapaug intro solo. Weekapaug is way up tempo tonight and pretty solid. Page takes us right into HYHU and then Trey announces they will do the slowest Terrapin, and boy do they ever. Wow! Nice trombone solo from "Tubbs". Coil is very solid tonight and also up tempo. A great Page solo ends and Trey sums it up with a rocking Tweeprise. Second set gets the nod tonight.

I can't really tell what exactly went on, but it seems the second Big Ball Jam may have been impromptu while trying to quiet the crowd before Carolina. It sounded like a lot of fun. The Rocky Top to follow is the absolute fastest I've ever heard to date. I know there are many out there, but this one has got to be a contender.

The better second set bumps this one up to at least four stars, but the blown lyrics and sloppy stuff leave it at that. Really fun sounding show.
