Another excellent show from *far and away* the strongest, most consistent tour since 2003. Check out the detailed Wolfman's Bro, the spectacular five-minute closing jam in TTE, and that very very nice CTB (swell melodic soloing from Trey)! The second set is strong all the way through. The Drowned > Jibboo passage is delicate and lovely. Nice to hear the boys stay with the Drowned jam so long - it's the kind of thing that would have petered out quickly in '09, but they let the groove gather and evolve, and totally stick the landing. Bravo!

The Jibboo > Gin segue reminds me of the Tweezer > Boogie On pairing from Telluride that folks inexplicably bitched about; Trey and Mike are really on top of the segues here. Gin is uplifting, but honestly, when was the last bad Gin? Twist and Hood are great, with a particularly satisfying return to the lyrics (and some Passion Pit-style 'woo!!') in the former tune and an extraordinary, elegant, all-too-brief minor-key interlude in Hood.

The biggest surprise in a surprise-filled set is the Split > Boy. Split pretty much falls apart after nine minutes or so, and the boys simply abandon the song's off-kilter time signature for an evil, martial 4/4. Fishman starts playing some tricks on the drums, for a second Trey and Page sound like 'Kid A'-era Radiohead, the whole thing dissolves into creepy ambient space, and in an echt-Phish moment, out of the mist emerges...the misanthropic love song from 'Hoist.' It's pretty cool.

The encore is exactly what it looks like.

Sorry this isn't a more critical/analytical review - for some reason, all I can do is recommend this one as a great time. 8/12/10 isn't gonna top any 'Best of' lists, I'm guessing, but it's the kind of show any other band would kill to play, and it's plenty of odd twists'n'turns to offer the diehards. Anyone who made the trip to Indiana for this one has gotta be feeling pretty good about her choice.
