I think you are mistaking the hand signals that Mike makes. He's signalling to the monitor mixer, who sits next to Page at the side of the stage, things like "turn up the piano" or "turn down the hi-hat" in his in-ear monitors. He's not signalling to the other band mates.
I totally believe you may be correct but I’ve seen enough phish shows to be able to assume there is something about this tour that is Mike dominant
