Well, ladies and gents....Phish's triumphant return to Austin was a marked improvement from their 2015 showing, and overall, this show did not disappoint.
Short version: slightly above "average great" territory, some gems in both sets, and worth your time to give a listen.
Set...
As I'm sure many reviews will testify in the coming day, this show doesn't exactly jump out as immediate must-hear Phish. If you're like me, and you try to listen to pretty much every show they play these days (and you should -- they'll be gone before you know it) then you'll no doubt find...
Howdy All!
Long time lurker on .net with hundreds of shows across the country under my belt since 1991 (11/15/91 "Mrs. Pizza Shit" show at Trax's in Charlottesville, VA, anyone?). I am proud to report that both the Shakedown in the lot and the venue itself at COTA has matured into a really...
Loved It.
Texas. Texas was lucky to be there.
They came out of the gates with a porpice.
Party Time thru Loving Cup,
Thank You Phish.
1st set burn, from the start. New favorite Party Time.
Awesome Possum. Lawn Boy, we all get so overwhelmed,
Micheal Gordlion, Page is savoring...
The energy of the crowd really drove this show. I think some of the things which were overlooked include Page's Lawn Boy, in which he took time to consiliate the Rage side. There was a moment when Trey announced Texas as his birthplace and this show was a homecoming. Page helped to keep it going...
A had a dream - and last night saw a major step towards its realization. The dream started on 10/31/14, after we were introduced to 10 instrumental jams that showed more hose creativity than most of 3.0's new offerings (not knocking 3.0 songs - just offering high praise for the 10/31/14 songs)....
I was there, I was also at shoreline and forum. I still had the time of my life. Crowd energy in the pit was on fire. The ones that didnt go to the show might not want to download it or whatever, but the band played there hearts out and is keeping me smiling all the way to dallas tonight.
It was so nice to see Phish in Austin again. This show might not have been an all time great by any means but the vibe was incredible and still a good show. I thought the highlights were Wolfmans, Antelope and 46 days. They did slow things down a bit in the second set with Shade, Waiting and...
I hate having to call this show a low point in a tour five shows old but it takes the cake by a wide margin.
That being said there are some cool moments worth a replay. I really like the set one Wolfmans over the past year or two, this version reminds me of 12-28-13 which I think is a tad...
This is my third Phish show and I had a great time. The venue is nice but very hot. Most of the day in Austin was overcast and not scorching but the sun came out - of course - as soon as I got in the pit.
Set 1's "The Moma Dance" and "Funky Bitch" were my highlights. I noticed some women have...
Effects-laden grime coasts on the tail end of a type I jam. Mike leads a charge to D, which goes ignored at first, but this lays the bedrock for a patient and breathtakingly happy shift towards bliss territory roughly halfway through the jam as Page and then Trey finally follow. A hose jam builds from the ether thanks to whale call and a foundational groove from Mike, eventually reaching a sustained peak with multiple releases of tension in a shower of joy over Everything that is Right with the universe. A final chorus and then dissonant noise paves the way for a > "Disease".
The "yang" to Set II's opening "Everything's Right", this supersized (and supersonic) version perfectly illustrates how seemingly opposite, or contrary forces, function in compliment. As if thematically connected, the band taps into the set-opener's protracted improvisation, and works this sound in opposite, exploring any number of dark, layered passages, which evoke any number of points in Phish's career.
