Cool Amber and Mercury was performed for the first time since August 29, 2021 (106 shows). Following Buffalo Bill, Trey remarked that the song is a classic and "they don't write 'em like that anymore." He then quoted Buffalo Bill from the film The Silence of the Lambs, saying "It puts the lotion on its skin."

rubywaverider This was some grade A weeknight Phish. Sound was suprisingly great in this old basketball arena. Band came to play - high energy throughout. Even the ballads weren’t wimpy and went places. PJoS quickly becoming an ambient freakout zone. Love it. Lots of great jamming throughout the night. Encore was one for books. Trey still got the Tube moves. One of the best Phish shows I’ve caught in the past few years.

Review by lofus99

lofus99 Well, well, well! Jesus Maria as my mother-in-law would say. I hope we can all agree that last night was one of those special nights that only comes around now and again. Band was just totally ON!! Everything in that 2nd set was GOLD. and most of 1st set was top shelf 1st set.
Set 1: Sigma was sharp and I knew not the instrumental that followed, but it was fine. Theme was a good one. Then...Cool Amber! Had not heard it b4, but another great new song! Loved it. Some good jamming on it too. 555 is probably my fav MIke song......after MIke's song. So funky and this one cooks! Then into the anchor of the 1st set, an amazing Gin. Top shelf. Listen to that one for sure. Pieces was a nice ballad. Reba! Was also great and well played! It was already a long set, so Chalkdust had to just be a short rocker to close the set.
Set 2: Mike's to open!!! This Mike's was soooo gooood! For sure they did Mike's part 2. Fix that will you please Phish.net? After 1st jam Trey played the riff and then dropped into the major chord...and off they went!! Then after taking that for a ride, Trey started ANOTHER jam progression. This Mike's was very top shelf. Eventually they landed back on the MIke's riff to end it!! Just so fricken good!! Then Caspian, Bliss. This jam stayed ethereal and then Trey got on the comms and they shifted gears into a smoking ripping No Mans. It was just pure fire. And after that beauty had run its course, they dropped BACK into the Caspian riff to end what was a spectacular 3rd quarter!! Must hear that folks. Then it's ICE!! Another fav of mine and this one did not disappoint! Remeber, the band was totally ON last night and everything was Gold. They could have played anything and it would have been great. Then came Pillow Jets...I had not heard this yet, BUT just WOW!!! The jam was ferocious!! Hugely psychedelic and this version was incredible beyond words for me!!! Just exactly the kind of crazy madness I love!! Into the Paug!!! The whole place was absolutely Rockin for this rager!! It could have ended there and we all would have been happy....but no. Trey starts up a very slinky Twist! This jam was also Gold! Super funky/slinky and delicious! What more? Slave!! Well, some folks have been down on recent versions of Slave, but this one was....like everything else, top shelf!! Huge long peak!!! Damn. What a set!!
Encore: Had to start with a slow song. 1st time I heard the lyrics. Perfect song for a teenage daughter. You know, those 2-3 years where they just disappear into their room? They come out eventually. Then the Buffalo Bill Bust out!! Yay! Trey being the comedian with after song banter! I am thinking, I am thinking....into Wilson! Another smoker version, Trey on comms.....into First Tube!! The Bad Leiutenant's fav song to play live! Confirming he was having a very good night. Big Broadway Trey moves! Great version!! Epic show!! Thanks boys! Glad to see one for the ages live on the web! These webcasts are fantastik! Living in Vancouver Canada, I would have never made it in person to a Tuesday show in Dayton Ohio!! Damn great to have been able to witness that live!!

Review by pictureof_OtisRedding

pictureof_OtisRedding my first show and one to remember! couldn't have asked for an overall better experience. arrived around 3:45, successfully got a foil, and hit up Shakedown Street to see the sights. shoutout to the guys at Naan But Kebab - one of the best meals I've ever had, highly recommend the Londoner and the Choclava.
first set had a ton of great performances - Sigma was on point, 9th Cube was a pleasant surprise, Cool Amber might be the most underrated performance of the night, great Bathtub Gin and Reba was a treat.
second set is really where it's at though - listening to that Mike's was a religious experience and the obvious highlight of the night. No Men had a really nice groove going before flawlessly flowing back into Caspian. It's Ice was short but nice. Pillow Jets takes 2nd place for best performance - Trey has an absolutely disgusting guitar tone and keeps pushing until the dissonance takes over ~8 minutes in. Overall just a phenomenal performance - only complaint is that they didn't keep it going for longer! Twist started out slow and funky and the build-up into full out rocker was perfectly executed. Slave was the perfect choice to close the set as if the night couldn't get any better. I just closed my eyes and listened and it felt like I was floating. Simply stunning.
can't forget about the encore - everyone was almost completely silent and stood perfectly still for Joy, and then the arena was filled with delighted roars for Buffalo Bill. Wilson is always welcomed and an extremely high energy First Tube was just the cherry on top of an already perfect night.
super sad I can't make the show tonight, but I'm so excited for the next time I can see the boys in action, whenever that might be!

EvenCarlSagan My brain was Zapped after about halfway thru the Second set last night. So, I'll have to finish that part when I get a flashback from it sometime in the hopeful, evental future. 9th Cube! Whaaa has happen?
Gin was...The Dayton Gin!! Expansive, Bold, fun, Wild.
Slow and low Chicago Muddy Waters Blues Twist blew me away. My 8th. Love how they can make these old dusty songs year after year morph to the day. This is why We Phish. This is why They Phish.
By the time Traffic Light hit, my mind got wiped, my body got sent into space and I met up with the real Carl Sagan and talked Quarks, Spaghetti string theory, Lotion in baskets and the eventual eternal return into a bold new Gamehendge Universe we all shall experience together in the pre-after-world-Hotdog.

Review by spreaditround

spreaditround SET 1:

Sigma Oasis: Ripped up the front and down the back. Fantastic way to start this show!

The 9th Cube: I’ll be ok if I never hear this again.

Theme From the Bottom: Standard.

Cool Amber and Mercury: Trey is feeling feisty. Like Sigma, he rips this one a new one.

555: Solid. >

Bathtub Gin: This one gets weird almost right out of the gate; Mike has that meatball effect working well for him. Love it! Very funky and chunky jam, great stuff. At 10:24 they kick it into overdrive and Trey guides them out of the murk. By 10:50 it’s definitely going major mode. The next two minute are high velocity jamming. Really enjoyed this and would happily recommend, very fun version!

Broken Into Pieces: It’s fine. The placement fit well here coming off that hot Gin jam. Decent tune if played sparingly.

Reba: Awesome version. Very intentional playing from all. Thrilling ramp up to the climax. Well done! Would recommend! >

Chalk Dust Torture: The beginning is off and awkward. Standard version other than that.

SET 2:

Mike's Song: Decent first jam. Second jam starts at 7:33 – woo hoo! Big effects right out of the gates. Things stay dark into until around 11 minutes. They get lighter for a few minutes and then things get intense again. The band showing flashes of its old self in the complete body of work in this jam. It’s great! An all timer I dare say. >

Prince Caspian: Broadway Trey to the absolute max. Awful. >

No Men In No Man's Land: Solid face melter. ->

Prince Caspian: So dumb to go back into this. So Trey.

It's Ice: Standard. >

Pillow Jets: Ugh, these lyrics. So bad. The jam is strong though. But those lyrics… ->

Weekapaug Groove: Standard.

Twist: Standard. >

Slave to the Traffic Light: Very good version.

ENCORE:

Joy: Not going to lie, I like this song in this slot every now and then. Trey kills this one, really showing off.

Buffalo Bill: Standard.

Wilson: Standard. >

First Tube: Standard.

Summary: Super solid first set with two great jams! Second set obviously comes charging out of the gates. The rest of the set is fine but there isn’t any replay value there. First set > second set for sure. 3.75/5.

Replay Value: Sigma Oasis, Bathtub Gin, Mike’s Song
