This show featured the Phish debuts of When the Cactus is in Bloom and Alaska. Before Dog Faced Boy, Trey explained that while living with Fish, he wrote Dog Faced Boy, Tube and Gumbo based on entries in one of Fish’s journals. During Dog Faced Boy, Fish left his drum kit and lay down in front of the stage because he didn’t need to sing the song. Lengthwise (performed a cappella) was played for the first time since July 28, 1998 (235 shows). Bold as Love was played for the first time since October 6, 2000 (74 shows).

NoFIller Also, check this Ghost out! Great for '09 and still holds up on tape. This show was hotly anticipated due to the fairly intimate venue and quaint Burlingtonesque NC town that has played host to many great musical performances over the years, including a top notch TAB Halloween show in 2002 at the theater adjacent to the Civic Center. Show sold out quickly and was one of the toughest tickets of Summer '09, save Red Rocks. Despite the frenzy outside, there was plenty of dance space in the GA venue. Musically, worth a spin perhaps, certainly for the Ghost FEFY. Band was still getting its sea legs back at this point in the summer

chrisjohnson2900 This show ended up with the third highest score for the summer for me. There were a couple of pretty interesting things that happened that made this show memorable for me. In the Dog Faced Boy, Gumbo, and Tube trilogy, we get a nice biographical story from Trey (reminiscent of Coventry) which ends up being pretty humorous about how he stole the lyrics to those songs from Fish's journal. According to the setlist notes, Fish has a seat in front of the stage during Dog Faced Boy because he doesn't have to drum. Then, to finish off the trilogy, Fish give us the first rendition of Lengthwise in 233 shows. I gave each of these songs a five not only for their unique biographical context but for the quality of the actual songs as well. The other highlights for the show for me were Bold as Love, Backwards Down the Number Line, Ghost, and Possum. I have mentioned before that Ghost has not been very successful from my perspective as a live show. As of late though, these guys are really playing it well and groovy. I love that album for its grooviness and it is awesome to see these guys do it justice on the stage. There weren't any amazing jams in this show but it was very memorable.

GHI: 3.9/5.0
Batting Average:.790 (79/100)

The two ratings are Batting Average and GHI. Both are defined below.
BA: The total number of stars achieved divided by the total possible stars a concert can achieve. Each song can achieve a total possible 5 stars, 5 being the best, 0 being the worst. Therefore, each show receives anywhere from a 1.0 to a .001.

GHI: This rating is used in The Phish Companion 2nd Ed. Each show is given a score from 0 to 5, five being the best and 0 being the worst.

The two scores are synonymous. I like the BA form better because each show receives a score closer to its worth depending on how you rated it.
