Ricoo Hmmm.. I was at this show and remember watching in awe as Trey and Santana went at it on stage.... Then I climbed the metal bleachers to get a look at the scene .. There I saw a sea of black leather jackets surrounding a little patch of tie-dyes huddled together right in the center of the crowd. And, yes, I was probably wearing a tiedye too. lol I wish there was a recording of this...

00rena00 What Obeltry mentions in the above post related to Santana punching Trey after the show because he outperformed him on stage happened. My brother talked to Trey after the show and found him with the rag on his nose and Trey told him about it.
Obeltry- I am also wondering who you are and if i know you? Were you by chance living in Durango at the time. I am from pueblo, but came back just for that show with about 12 friends. Wondering if you were one of them?

ob1trey First show, I barely remember the show, after the "fog of war". I implore anyone to get their copy of The Phish Book, on page 2 or 3 there is a picture of a bloodied Trey with a caption that reads it was taken at this show. I heard a rumor after this show that Trey was punched by Carlos Santana or a member of his band. When Santana invited Trey out to play with them during their set, I swear Trey upstaged Santana, and perhaps was punched for doing so? any comments?

geniussheis Was one of maybe 35 people who came to see Phish. The Santana fans were definitely looking at the Phish phans in bewilderment - especially since they were mostly Mexicans in cowboy hats. Standard set - ended too soon. Trey thanked Santana for the opportunity and experience. Interesting juxtaposition between sets. Rides and coasters remained opened long after even Santana finished.

Samgrinter Hey Folks -

For what it's worth - I was there at the show and as much as I love Trey, would not say that he was "outperforming" Carlos that afternoon/evening. I have seen Carlos a few times and felt his playing that night was one of his "on" performances, with him actually giving Trey time to dig into that space that Santana is known for.

I would also be surprised that someone like Santana would hit a fellow performer given the man's history. Really? If this (hitting Trey) was what really went down, I would be very surprised.

Incidentally, I agree with a previous comment that most people were there for Santana and were listening/looking at the Phish set with less than amused squinting faces. Fun stuff nonetheless.

DollarBill No recording found again for another Santana opener set. Not too much deviation from the "Best Behavior Tour" set lists. They did put the two best played new songs back in with Maze and Sparkle. Stash closer looks interesting.

Moving on...
