Jam Chart for Your Pet Cat (7 entries)

Date City Timing Notes
2014-10-31 Las Vegas, NV 4:25 Debut. Following Laura Olsher's narration and "screaming" sound effects, a plucky Trey leads the band into a jam that, prior to "Tube's" resurgence, would not have sounded out of place in a, well, "Tube" jam.
2017-07-14 Chicago, IL 6:34 The jam breaks away from the "Your Pet Cat" theme about 4 minutes in, growing warm and anthemic, then makes a surprising, Fish-led, and nifty -> into "Golden Age".
2017-07-14 Chicago, IL 3:30 -> back out of "Golden Age". Page's electric piano adds some great color to this half of the "Your Pet Cat"/"Golden Age" sandwich. > into the debut of "Leaves".
2021-10-30 Las Vegas, NV 15:16 "YPC" gets its legs fully stretched out for the first time. As this song can, it sounds not unlike a "Tube" jam. This version is replete with great playing from Page on his synth. Around 9:15, Trey leads the band into new territory. His play is deliberate, Mike and Fish push the jam underneath him. Page wails on his keys alongside. The jam reaches a frenzied peak around 13:45 and then goes back into the song proper and then > "Runaway Jim".
2022-02-26 Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico 9:38 -> out of "Twist". Continuing "YPC"'s unexpected run as a jam vehicle, this baby turns into a real Page synthesizer showcase, briefly delving into The Weirdness before Trey's solos bring us back to "YPC" proper.
2022-12-29 New York, NY 6:09 Melds -> in from an exploratory "Fluffhead" jam, and this "YPC" too gets an unusual treatment, as midway through the funk transitions to a pumped-up, increasingly upbeat blowout.
2024-08-16 Dover, DE 6:57 > from "Pillow Jets," the song, some of the faster Phish you’ll hear these days (this version, anyway), functions as an extension of the set's sound, "YPC's" signature-lick taking several speedy laps before Trey breaks to solo, at points melodically, and hammer the -> drawing out "Ruby Wave's" conclusion.
Jam chart versions are selected because of improvisational and other characteristics that distinguish these from typical versions of the song.
