2004-06-19 Saratoga Springs, NY 17:58 Outstanding "Type II" version. The jam probes the sea floor until finding oceanic bliss around the 9:30 mark. Trey lays back crafting rhythmic textures, while Page deploys the clavinet. What follows is a calming sense of murky haze before the jam gains momentum, ultimately returning to the song proper. > to an exceptional "Piper."
2009-06-19 Noblesville, IN 10:56 Standard rendition until the jam takes a turn towards a beatless ambience drenched by Page's synth, which grows loosely percussive and upbeat. > to "Drowned."
2010-10-26 Manchester, NH 6:57 Straightforward version that features some nice whole tone scale use by Trey (the "off key" sounding scale).
2011-07-03 Watkins Glen, NY 10:15 Stunning exploratory "Type II" version. The jam departs "ASIHTOS" at 4:00 and arrives in a desert haze where the band proceeds to lose itself in a mirage-filled dream, wandering deliriously until emerging in heavenly bliss at 7:00. Led by Mike, this serene music patiently morphs into ambient space, and gradually fades to silence with no return to "ASIHTOS."
2014-07-29 Portsmouth, VA 8:39 Jam proceeds in standard fashion before breaking away and settling briefly. Then it regains energy, taking on a textured feel before dissipating.
2015-07-22 Bend, OR 8:12 The jam makes a nice modulation to major mode where the band builds to a peak thanks to Trey's melodic playing. After shifting back to minor mode and revisiting the song proper, the jam mode shifts again and > to "Waves." Short but sweet.
2017-07-30 New York, NY 18:02 After a nice low-key standard jam, the music dissolves into a delicate guitar scratch/minimal percussion duet, almost like King Crimson's "Moonchild". Page and Mike jump in and add color to the proceedings, then Page and Trey hit on a repeating pattern that reignites the jam. The band wallows in odd '94-style atonality, weird vocals and Mike's envelope filter and all, then a pitch-black late night groove emerges with Page's electric piano at the forefront and Fish adding a militaristic edge. Exceptionally deep music.
2017-12-31 New York, NY 18:54 Serving as the anchor of NYE's nautically themed set, this jam rides a current of warm major-key play into a funky groove and then sails to a swell peak before receding into the depths.
2018-07-24 San Francisco, CA 14:36 This siren song kicks off with Page on Rhodes and Trey on fast Leslie following Fishman to a quieter, warbly dynamic. Trey eventually goes whale call as the jam moves to bliss pastures in G, eventually moving to a patient build up to a mellow peak. Polyrhythm from Fishman and synth/wurlitzer work from Page ensue as the jam decrescendos. Eventually the jam winds to arhythmic space, until Fishman cues the band back for one final chorus.
2018-10-31 Las Vegas, NV 9:24 Compact bliss jam full of sustained whammy guitar leads over a bed of wavy electric piano.
2019-06-21 Charlotte, NC 10:06 Wastes no time moving to a warm major key jam (with charming "If I Only Had A Brain" teases) that picks up speed and gets almost tropical at Page's urging, before shifting to some tasty rocking out and letting Mike really shine. A lot of meat packed into a smaller frame.
2022-02-25 Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico 11:55 Capping a strong set, this historic version, the first "ASITHOS" to close a show, works well in this important role. Dark, swirling, and effects-laden jamming, wholly dominated by Trey, builds to a series of powerful peaks, Page's accents sublime, the play bright-white, Slave-Like and running, running, and running, leaving all feeling good.
2022-07-24 Hartford, CT 18:19 Initially coaxed into a low-key minor jam which gradually intensifies before paring down to become minimalist and brooding, and then rebuilds into a soulful, celebratory finale.
2023-04-23 Hollywood, CA 9:32 > from "Mr. Completely" comes a completely unhinged jam that immediately dives headfirst into an unrelenting, grinding, grimy groove, and in the blink of an eye flows back -> into "Mr. C". Heavy.
2023-07-18 Wilmington, NC 18:40 Vocal calisthenics give way at first to thoughtful and melodic play morphing quickly to an exceptionally groove driven thumper that begs for dancing. Aggressive leads strut with swagger over a thick bed of funky rhythm that decays into a hazy stew, regaining some drive before > to "Light". Excellent.
2024-02-22 Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico 16:49 Opening a second set for the first time since the 2017 Mexico shows, this "ASIHTOS" features a swirling, grimy intro that indicates the band may be ready to deliver the goods. The jam begins as a laid-back affair, an apt soundtrack for oceanside listening. The tempo picks up gradually; Trey's riffing and Page's play stand out. The jam slowly dissolves and > into a huge, must-hear "Wave of Hope."
2024-07-28 East Troy, WI 15:13 Impassioned opener which, while incredibly tight, assumes no set structure, Trey signaling a shift near the 7:00 mark for something more by way of major mode before play calms and the jam coasts; but a calm before the storm, this, as Trey, pushed by Fish, builds the jam to an incendiary, must-hear finish.
