(Published in the second edition of The Phish Companion...) I was fourth row center, packed in like a sardine with two buddies amongst the heat exhausted, sweaty crowd. Please hold, I need a bong hit before I finish this review....Much better. OK, where was I? Oh yeah, trying to rehash old memories in the vain and useless hopes of recapturing former glories.

OK, where was I? Oh yeah, trying to rehash old memories in the vain and useless hopes of recapturing former glories. My first Phish show. After listening to Phish in my latter years in college with my fraternity brothers; I was all in for Camp Oswego. Three cars and 10 people deep, off we go to Volney NY from NJ. As predicted by my experienced friends, we hit an 8 hour traffic jam to get inside the airport. And so the party began. It was hotter than hell that weekend, but after hearing one note live, I was hooked. I had never seen so many people focused on the band. There was very little chatter by the crowd back in those days. Free was my fav, and they delivered on Day 2. It would be unfair to rate these shows since they were my first. However, Phish has been my obsession since Camp Oswego even during the 2 hiatuses. I have more passion than ever for Phish after watching them evolve over the years. And most importantly, they seem to have found the right balance for themselves, their Families, and us fans.

A tube first set opener! yea we were in for a hot night.Camp Oswego was already burning up due to the heat, but the band thought it would be a good idea to melt us a little more.Boogie was big hit for those in attendance opening a fest with funk is good. the birds is blast, great 99 version.Geulah is one of those songs that boost an entire set! a couple of cool off songs later Tweezer took us where we wanted to go i love the peak in this version. Then i lost it

An interesting show to say the least. so sick. the "Birds" is Bananas ! after PNC i realy didnt think I was going to see an exceptional show. I remember running to get to the front of the stage on the second night of the festival. Still the seci=ond night sucked. Trey as obviously spent on the second night of Oswego. But like I said I was surprised He had energy after PNC. Those were 5/8/77 GD level shows.

Ah, Oswego, the festival that time forgot. I have a much stronger relationship with Fall '99 than with Summer '99, so I'll be interested to see how this stacks up not just as a major event, but also as an example of what Phish were up to then.

By my very personal estimation, this is the greatest DWD ever played. Trey just shreds that sucker with unbelivable precision and speed yet he keeps changing his tone throughout, varying from the wicked Leslie tones to a raging tube-screamy fire shred to a melted octave'd down to psychdelic squeals from Boomerang loops then the jam takes it wayyyy down and and grooving, Page is especially clever here, with phased Rhodes then turns to the clavinet. Fishman the glue as always and kinda playing breakbeats ala Jojo Meyer. In a way, it's very 99. Reeks of a PPV Directv Special. You get the vibe. A lot of purple. red, blue colours. Brief search from Trey trying funk stabs before returning to a major anthemic theme. Hear it!

The Mockingbird FoundationThe Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
