This show may have edged toward 4 star territory for me, with most of the songs being above average. Trey is Shredalicious in Chalkdust and Brother and even Mockingbird. Hood is quite decent as well. Alas, the sound quality on this recording is really pretty awful, like a boombox held up to an AM radio broadcast, and the end of a pretty interesting Weekapaug is cut off. So I think the near 4 star playing is balanced by the two star or lower sound quality, so I'll go three stars. Ah, to be baked in Telluride.

This show in its context is actually a neat one. It's a return to Telluride, and to the story of the Roma gig's of '88. Thankfully, much more planned circumstance led them here this time. Late first set before Hood, the newly beardless and hairless Trey took a moment to tell the story of their first trip ever out of their home court. Trey said he got a call from Warren Stickney (have no clue on the spelling, or if i even heard the name clearly, but oh well).....apparently notorious for whatever reasons, his name provoked an "Oh No!" from the crowd. Basically, he fed the eager band a bunch of hot air about touring out west. They had a farewell party and show in Burlington and everything. They thought they were going on a "rock tour", as Trey put it, but no gigs at all were booked by the guy. However, he did offer them to play the Roma for the door. Horrible. So "with tails between their legs" they went back to Nectar's. In what could be speculated as possible redemption for lost pride, they decide to just do it anyway and go to Colorado. And now you know the rest of the story.

The lone reviewer in this edition said that the venue was like a really large living room. wow.

To hear this show in this context would be something you would not ever forget. The power in that room had to be incredible.

Set I begins with a swift run of MSO, CDT, Mango >Buried Alive > Guelah before Fluff drops. A blazing Brother follows.....and Bouncin' to cool down. Trey tells the return to Telluride story and Hood, Golgi close out the set. Great Hood, IMO.

Set II hits the ground running with LLama, Col. Forbin's> Mockingbird during which Trey gives a Gamehendge tutorial. Then Sparkle and Its Ice (one of my long time top 10 fave ph songs) before an excellent mid set Mike's Groove. Trey kills it all. Slays it. The Antelope, too.

Great show, kinda historical, great playing from everyone...especially Trey. Good God. Check it out.

Really muddy audience source for this show, unfortunately.

Like Night 1 in San Francisco, they open with Memories, but it’s missing from the recording. Kevin Crochetiere introduces the band before MSO. The recording takes a hit in quality after the tape flip following Guelah. That said, Brother has a fiery Trey solo that cuts through the haze. After Bouncin’, Trey shares a story about their first trip to Telluride. Hood is dedicated to Mike and Lisa—beautiful flow in the jam, and Trey absolutely nails the ending. Golgi is solid, standard stuff to wrap up the first set.

Set 2 kicks off with a powerhouse trifecta: Llama into Forbin > Mockingbird. There’s a little stumble coming back into the final chorus of It’s Ice, but it’s minor. The Mike’s jam is short but full of energy, and Groove brings the heat—Trey is in full shred mode. Unfortunately, the tape cuts out during the final chorus and picks up mid-Tela narration. The A-Train is clean and smooth, with a nice little Stash tease from Trey. Antelope closes the set with a ripping version—fast, loose, and fun. Sweet Adeline is cut from the source. Glide makes its second appearance on the tour after debuting in Rochester, and they follow it with a blazing Possum closer.

Hopefully the soundboards make it into circulation someday—there’s a lot of good playing buried in the mud here.
