This was my first show. I had never heard a single note of Phish before entering that room, and I was a huge fan by the time they got through the 3rd silly theme in Gin. I was thinking "who does this shit?"

Listening back, it's not the greatest performance but the sense of humor and fun is there, and they weren't yet taking themselves too seriously.

They had also not developed their improvisational mastery...hints of what was to come were there, but it was mostly songs.

It was $4 at the door, and there were like 150 people there. I bought Junta on cassette that night and it turns out I had a defective copy that was dubbed at the wrong speed or something. Every song was too fast and about a whole step higher than the actual key.

Anyway, today is the 24th anniversary of this show so I'm listening on Phishtracks. What a trip...so glad I went.

This was one of my earliest Phish shows, although not my first. My memories of this show are hazy, but I remember that it was a fun and magical night. The weirdness of the show, the narration,( who tells stories in the middle of a concert?).. kung, YEM, Mikes song, Hydrogen, Golgi, and so much more. It was just so different from any other music I had ever heard. It definitely wasn't about extended jamming at this point in time, it was about these completely amazing, weird, different songs. Whether it was technically good or bad, I can't say, I just knew I liked it...ALOT! You could already see how the scene was growing and knew this was something special that was going to become very big. I do recall that that I was trippin balls! Several friends that I had not yet met(Burn One Adam!) until years later were also at this show.

Fairly standard stuff, here. The start of Foam is horrendous, but on the upside there is a decent Melt, and McGrupp > Who Do? We Do! > AC/DC Bag is nice. Also, the Rhombus narration is kind of funny due to the repeated references to "Green Grass and High Tides Forever". Mostly, though, just a pretty standard show. Three stars.

Nice Gin opener after a warm introduction. Foam was a little shaky during some composed sections but has a strong jam segment. Pretty straightforward Mike’s Groove for this tour. Curtain>Reba go well together I’m surprised they didn’t combine these two songs more often. Nice playful jam in Melt tonight. Fantastic GTBT to close out set 1.

Set 2 keeps up the energy with a nice Oh Kee Pah > Golgi combo. YEM is very strong and melts nicely into the second version of KUNG. Hilarious Rhombus rap precedes Divided Sky. McGrupp>Who Do? We Do!>Bag lineup is awesome. Rippin’ Bag tonight!
