    Carter joined the Del McCoury Band in 1992 as a full-time member, playing fiddle and adding baritone vocals. He is known as one of the fastest rising young musicians in bluegrass music and has played with several well-respected musicians in the community, including Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush and Johnny Cash. His playing has been described as “solid, straight, hard-core bluegrass fiddle style defined by Benny Martin, ‘Chubby’ Wise, Scotty Stoneman, and Sonny Miller.” In 1997, he released his first solo album, On the Move, which featured him front and center on fiddle and vocals with the Del McCoury Band backing.
    In addition to his appearance with the entire Del McCoury Band in Oswego (1999), Carter joined Phish on 6/22/00 in Antioch, TN. There, he contributed his skills on “Uncle Pen,” “I’m Blue I’m Lonesome,” and “Freebird,” among others.
